Roman Bank Nurseries already had a Squarespace website in place, but it wasn’t set up to actually sell online.
They were offering pre-orders for bulbs, but this was all handled through an enquiry-style order form and then processed manually through Sage. It was time-consuming, clunky to manage and left a lot of room for inefficiencies as order volumes grew.
At the same time, they were planning to open a bricks and mortar gift shop, which introduced another layer of complexity. They needed a way to manage both in-store and online sales in one place, without doubling up on admin or creating more manual work.
They had heard about Shopify and approached us to understand whether it could give them a more streamlined, scalable way to run both sides of the business.
We transitioned Roman Bank Nurseries from a basic brochure-style Squarespace site to a fully functional ecommerce setup built on Shopify.
The focus was on removing manual processes and creating a system that could handle both online and in-store sales seamlessly.
We built a new Shopify website with full ecommerce functionality, allowing customers to browse and purchase products directly rather than relying on enquiry forms. For their seasonal bulb sales, we implemented a pre-order system so they could continue selling in advance, but in a way that was structured, trackable and far easier to manage.
To support their physical gift shop, we assisted with the setup of Shopify POS, enabling them to manage in-store and online transactions in one place. This removed the need for disconnected systems and reduced admin significantly.
On the inventory side, we introduced a raw materials management app to control stock at a base level, allowing them to accurately track what goes into product bundles sold online. We also set up separate selling locations within Shopify, so stock could be clearly managed between items available in-store only and those available online.
We implemented click and collect to bridge the gap between ecommerce and their physical shop, giving customers more flexibility in how they purchase.
Finally, we set up and customised transactional emails, ensuring customers receive clear, professional communication throughout their buying journey while also reinforcing the brand.
Roman Bank Nurseries now have a fully connected setup that supports both sides of the business.
Their bricks and mortar gift shop is open and running, with Shopify POS in place to manage in-store sales efficiently. This is already removing the need for manual processing and giving them a much clearer view of what’s selling and what needs restocking.
The new website has been built and finalised on Shopify, ready to support online sales properly rather than relying on enquiry forms and manual admin. Products and inventory are currently being input and organised, with the system set up to handle pre-orders, bundled stock and separate selling locations.
Once switched on, the business will be able to manage online and in-store sales from one place, with stock control, order processing and customer communication all working together rather than across disconnected systems.
What was previously a time-consuming, manual process is now a streamlined setup that’s built to scale, giving Roman Bank Nurseries the foundations they need to grow both their physical shop and their online offering side by side.
